On the occasion of his birthday, Tamil superstar Dhanush unveiled the teaser of his upcoming release, Vada Chennai. The film is directed by Vetrimaran who has collaborated with the actor in commercially and critically acclaimed films like Polladhavan (2007) and Aadukalam (2011). The teaser takes us through over 30 years of a person’s life. We see how a young man is drawn into the world of crime and gang war. The actor has a layered role and that is evident from the trailer itself. We see the innocent spark of a teenager and the weary vengeful side of a man who knows that survival is of the fittest in the badlands of North Chennai. Actress Aishwarya Rajesh and Andrea Jeremiah play the female leads in the film. Vada Chennai has been a project which is very close to Dhanush’s heart. The shoot began in 2016. The film is set in the mafia world of 1970’s Chennai. It has been shot in the Binny Mills area.

The teaser makes an impact with the realistic depiction of the milieu and the tremendous background score. We can feel the tension and intensity in every frame. Dhanush seems to have put in another power-packed performance into this one. The raw appeal that won over Hindi audiences in Raanjhanaa is visible here too in the scenes where he is shown as a teen. Incidentally, Dhanush was not the first choice for the film. Filmmaker Vetrimaran had the script ready just after he finished Aadukalam. Actor Karthi was the first choice but he opted out due to delays. Later, buzz was that Silambarasam would be the leading man with Rana Daggubati as second male lead. Even that did not materialise. Finally, in 2015 Dhanush announced that he would produce the project and also act in it. Samantha Akkineni was considered as the leading lady but she walked out before the filming began. The music is by Santhosh Narayanan. The movie will hit the theatres in September.
